We're Here!!

After 3 flights and around 12 hours of air time, we finally made it! We were so thrilled that our luggage made it too, which really seems like a small miracle.

Kuai'i is a bigger island than I thought. We rented a jeep and it takes about an hour to get from the airport to the North side of the island where our hotel is. Of course, it takes longer to get from one side to the other because the speed limits are so low, ranging from 25 to 40. But, really, who would want to drive fast if this was your view?

We landed in Honolulu, and took our 3rd flight to Kuai'i...the view from the air was breathtaking!

While we were getting our rental car, we saw our 1st rooster...they're all over the island, crowing and looking for food. Apparently, the wild chicken population exploded in Kaua'i after Hurricane Iniki, which leveled the island in 1992. Domestic chickens were released into the wild as a result of the hurricane, and now the wild birds are everywhere. It sounds like they've been around even before as there are no natural predators here. They certainly contribute the Island's rural ambiance - especially with their incessant crowing at all hours of the night. The morning hours mean nothing to these birds! And, the locals say they're not edible, hard as a lava rock!

We were so happy to finally arrive at our hotel, St. Regis Princeville, where we received our leis:

Our room is perfect. It really reminds me so much of our hotel in St. Lucia, which overlooked the Pitons.

We're thrilled to finally be here...looking forward to our helicopter ride in the morning.
