Louisville, Here We Come (Back)

We're getting ready for our move tomorrow despite Lyla Q.'s first cold. She's excited about her new home despite her sweet little runny nose and cough (which is breaking my heart!). Much to do - we are thankful my mom is coming this afternoon to help!

My First Carrots

Today was the day - Lyla tried her first real baby food: organic carrots. We tried them before we gave them to her, and they were actually quite tasty. She seemed to be a little perplexed by the new food and ultimately had a breakdown, but not before flashing a little smile for the camera, which she seems prepared to do under almost any circumstances.

More carrots tomorrow!!

The Toy Store!!

It's been very difficult to post lately as most of our free time is consumed with getting ready for the Move. We're particularly appreciative of Nan, Aunt Carole and Aunt Tevan for recently coming to help us get things ready.

We were excited to have time to take Lyla to the toystore in Oakley today. She was initially a little tired when we got there, but she immediately became interested in the sites and sounds as we looked at and played with various toys. At one point, she became very agitated that we left her in her stroller - she's beginning to learn to communicate with us about exactly what she wants, and she seems to have very definitive ideas about what she wants. Today, she wanted out! She was so excited to look all around at the toys, and she made herself remain awake throughout our visit.

Of course, I was excited to check out the girly stuff:

Lance laughed about how the visit reminded him of visits to the toy store with Grandma Hottman to "just look" around Childrens' Palace. Of course, these visits always resulted in game or two for him and Kipper.

We bought Lyla a new toy called "First Snaps". She seems to like eating them, of course.

We're not sure which she likes better - the toy we bought her or the book Daddy bought today to research vacation options. Who can tell?

Recent Developments

Lyla continues to surprise us each day with new found skills. I really think she's starting to say her first word, which is a long, stretched out, "Hiiiiiii.....iiii". I say this to her every morning when I go to her crib, and I hear a variation of it in her babble from time to time, especially when she's in the backseatof the car entertaining herself. She's like a little parrot.

Other recent sounds from Lyla Q - a high pitched squeal that she seems to greatly enjoy and a low grunting sound as she tries to "stand up" with only a little assistance from Daddy and I. Here are some pics I took of her on Sunday in her jumper - I looked up and she was practically standing on her own, while making her low, determined grumbling little grunt.

We were also particularly pleased to see that her feet are actually touching the floor. This is a real accomplishment for our little girl. :)
