Birthday Party Weekend

It was an insane weekend for us this past weekend - we were invited to 4 birthday parties! We made it to 3, but by #4, we were all exhausted - even Cade was refusing cupcakes by the last party, which was Rand’s.

Here are a few photos from our fantastic birthday rounds. Cade had an amazing time - I think it’s the first time he really started to understand the concept of goody bags and birthday party “venues”. He was so excited to see where we would go next. His biggest challenge continues to be his nut/egg allergy - we have to take our own ice cream and cupcakes to each party, but with only mild protest, he chugs along and loves being with Lyla and the other kids. It was hard for me…I hate seeing him not get everything the other kids have.

Party #1 was Eli’s - at Louisville Gymnastics. It was so much fun to watch Lyla and Cade play with the other kids. At one point, Eli had to pick several kids to go with him, and he chose Lyla and not Cade. Cade tried to join this group to be with his sister, but the staff said no. I noticed that as Eli’s group ran along to do their next activity, Lyla turned around and joined Cade’s group so she could be with her brother. I love seeing how much they love each other - there’s just nothing that makes me prouder.

The next party was our neighbor, Grayson’s, and it was at Kazoing!, a huge inflatable place. Cade was so excited when we walked in…he kept saying, “Wow! This is cool, Mommy!” He was off on his own at this party - he was excited to climb and slide. Lyla had a great time too, making a couple of friends and, again, enjoying time with her brother.

Look at me, Mommy!

The last party was Rand’s, on Sunday morning. It started off a little rough at Camp Hi Ho, a really interesting place about 10 miles from our house. It’s a day camp for kids during the summer - I’m hoping Lyla might be able to try it out next year. Rand’s party was at the zip line and water gun section of the camp - the kids loved it! I was a little concerned at first about how they would handle this as the kids were a little older than them, but Lyla jumped right in and insisted that she wanted to do the zip line by herself. I was so proud of how brave she was! Here she is, bravely waiting in line for her next turn:

Cade enjoyed playing with the water guns when the other kids lost interest - he also loved playing the camp’s water hose - I was unable to get a picture of that as he tried to spray me with it every time I got close:

The kids were fascinated with the camp’s horses - they wanted to pet them and ride them. I’m hoping we can try this sometime soon - they really enjoyed talking to and watching the horses in action.

It was so much fun - the whole weekend, but we were all exhausted by the end of it. It’s so much fun watching all these kids grow up, and I feel so fortunate that our kids get to be a part of it - together.
